Trust & security

Security and trust: how Semia handles your production data

Semia is an AI employee for food and beverage production planning, and it works by reading the systems that hold your recipes, your suppliers, and your numbers. This page spells out exactly what it touches, what it never touches, and who stays in control. Anything deeper, your IT team can get under a full security review.

What Semia touches, and how

Read-only connections to what you already run

Semia reads orders, inventory and lots, ingredients, attendance, and machine status from the systems your plant already uses: SAP, Odoo, Microsoft Dynamics, Excel, Google Sheets, Gmail, Outlook, WhatsApp, and attendance systems. It reads them. It does not write back into them.

Nothing migrated, nothing overwritten, nothing on the line

There is no data migration project and no software installed on production equipment. Your ERP stays your ERP, your spreadsheets stay your spreadsheets, and if a record is wrong you fix it where it lives, not in some parallel copy. Granting read access takes about 30 minutes.

Built for messy systems, not a cleanup prerequisite

Traditional planning tools tend to demand clean, structured data before they work, which is why so many rollouts stall. Semia is built to work across the mix most plants actually run, half in the ERP, half in spreadsheet hell, and it learns the rest by sitting next to your planner and asking questions. It is useful in about two weeks, without a data cleanup project first.

Who owns what

Your data stays inside your company

Recipes, supplier terms, costs, and production numbers stay inside your company. Semia's job is to read them and draft tomorrow's plan, not to move them somewhere new.

The captured planning logic is yours

Semia learns by shadowing your planner: the unwritten sequencing rules, the allergen cleanout habits, the customers who always get squeezed in. That context usually lives in one person's head, and it walks out the door when they do. Once Semia captures it, that planning logic belongs to you, the customer, not to us.

A named human approves every plan

Semia writes a finished draft every morning, sequenced for finite capacity, shelf life, and allergen changeovers, but no plan reaches the floor until a named person on your team approves it. There is no autopilot mode where the schedule changes and nobody signed off. If any of the terms are unfamiliar, /glossary covers the vocabulary planners actually use.

No lock-in by design

Because nothing was migrated, leaving is not a project. Your systems keep running exactly as they did before Semia read them, and the planning logic captured from your plant remains yours. See /pricing for how an engagement is structured.

Accountability on every draft

Plain-language reasoning for every call

Every decision in the draft comes with its reasoning spelled out: why the allergen run went last on a line, why an order moved up a day on shelf-life risk, why a batch was split across shifts. Your planner can challenge any of it before approving. See /industries/bakery for what that looks like on an allergen-heavy line.

A full audit trail, always

Every draft, every re-plan when the day changed, every human edit, and every approval is recorded. When someone asks weeks later why Thursday ran the way it did, you can pull up the exact reasoning and the name of the person who approved it.

Deeper questions, answered under a security review

Architecture, hosting, encryption, and data-handling documentation are available under a security review with your IT team. Email nick@semia.ai and we will set it up. If you would rather see the product first, book a demo at /demo and bring your IT lead along.

Common questions

Who sees our data?

Semia reads, with permissions you grant, from the systems your plant already runs, and what it reads stays inside your company. Your recipes, supplier terms, and production numbers are not moved into some new system of record. Inside your plant, the draft plan and its reasoning are visible to your team, and a named person on your side approves before anything reaches the floor.

Does our data train models for other companies?

The planning logic Semia captures from your plant belongs to you and stays yours. What Semia learns by shadowing your planner is your company's asset, not ours to reuse. If your IT or legal team wants that in writing with the detail behind it, request the full security review at nick@semia.ai.

Can we export our data and leave?

Yes, and leaving is deliberately unremarkable. Semia connects read-only to the systems you already run, so your orders, inventory, and recipes were never moved out of them in the first place. The planning logic captured from your plant belongs to you, and that ownership does not end when the engagement does.

What does the audit trail record?

The audit trail records every draft plan, the plain-language reasoning behind each call in it, every re-plan when the day changed, and the name of the person who approved it before anything reached the floor. If a customer asks why an order slipped, or a manager asks why a line sat idle, you can pull up exactly what Semia recommended, why, and who signed off.

Do we have to install anything on the production line?

No. Semia connects read-only to systems like SAP, Odoo, Microsoft Dynamics, Excel, Google Sheets, Gmail, Outlook, and WhatsApp, and it can read attendance systems too. Nothing is installed on machines, nothing is migrated, and nothing in your existing setup is overwritten. Granting read access takes about 30 minutes.

Can our IT team get security documentation before we commit?

Yes. Architecture, hosting, encryption, and data-handling documentation are available under a security review. Email nick@semia.ai to request it, or bring your IT lead to a demo at /demo and raise it there.
